The City of Ravenswood is gearing up for their annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14. Once again the parade will be a nighttime parade beginning at 6 p.m., featuring entries covered in beautiful lights, lighting the way for the Christmas season.
CAS Cable will be in Ravenswood to cover the parade, in which Buddy Stemple, CEO of Constellium, will be the parade Grand Marshal and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be appearing on horse and buggy courtesy of Rocky Point Farm. In total, over 25 entries are set to make the parade route, up from just 15 entries in 2018.
This years line-up will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the gymnasium on South Ritchie Avenue, with the parade beginning at 6 p.m. The City will be posting parade entry numbers along South Ritchie Avenue around 1 p.m. on Saturday, in order to give entrants time to set up as needed.
The parade route will proceed on South Ritchie Avenue, veering left onto Ritchie Avenue, then taking a left onto Washington Street. The only difference in this year’s route is that the parade will end at Washington’s Riverfront Park.
Hoping to start a new tradition, the parade will come to an end at Washington’s Riverfront Park where pictures with Santa will begin at 7 p.m. at the Sayre Log Cabin in front of the museum.
Hot chocolate, cookies, and milk will be served in the Ravenswood Board of Parks and Recreation office below the museum.
Following pictures, Santa will join the children in front of the museum, in a heated tent, for story time where he will read “The Night Before Christmas.”
“I would like to thank Denise Toler and Katrena Ramsey and everyone who has had a part in making this happen,” Ravenswood Mayor Josh Miller said.
Miller credits Jackson General Hospital for helping with the hot chocolate and cookies for the kids, The GLOW Movement for helping with story time and with Santa, and Century 21/Cooper’s Auction House for helping fund the heated tent.
Miller is looking forward to the Christmas in the Wood event and hopes that it is something that the community will enjoy as well.
