West Virginia University of Parkersburg, Jackson County Center will be offering an American Sign Language for Beginners class on Thursdays, beginning Oct. 17 and running through Dec. 12.

The eight-week course focuses on basic conversational sign language as well as information regarding deaf culture. The goal of the class is to be able to communicate on a basic level with deaf and hard of hearing people in an everyday setting, such as the workplace or daily social events.

This course is perfect for kids and families, or just anyone who has an interest in sign language.

Classes are located at the Jackson County Center from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday, Oct. 17, 24, 31, Nov. 7, 14, 21, Dec. 5, and 12.

Cost of the course is $75.
