The Community Foundation of Jackson County is hosting its annual fundraiser dinner Oct. 17. This year, the event will showcase former NFL star and two-time All-Pro Selection for the Washington Redskins, Joe Theismann.

Theismann led the Redskins to a Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XVII. In 1983, he was the NFL’s Most Valuable Player. He was drafted straight out of high school but decided to go to college first at the University of Notre Dame before his career in the National Football League.

In 1982, he was selected as the NFL’s man of the year for his community service and dedication to the health and welfare of children. In June 2002, he was named one of the 70 greatest Washington Redskins players. In 2003, he was added to the College Football Hall of Fame.

“His impressive career, community focus, and inspirational life makes us delighted to host him for our annual fundraising campaign in the fall. We look for someone who is as community-focused and goal-driven as we are to speak at our event every year, and there is no better match than Joe Theismann. He is the perfect fit for our audience, and we cannot wait for him to share his story with us this October,” said Christy Sizemore, JCCF executive director.
