The Jackson County Pilot Club is part of a worldwide volunteer service organization who through Pilot International is dedicated to “protecting your brain for life” through education about brain-related disorders and disabilities.

Chartered in October of 1987, the Jackson County club funds projects regarding brain health and community wellness throughout the Jackson County community.

Symbolizing the clubs motto, “True Course Ever,” the Pilot Wheel logo refers to the courses charted by riverboat pilots.

The Pilot Club of Jackson County participates in several community programs and sponsors many events for the local community.

The BrainMinders Program is for people of all ages. It is a flexible program with age specific groups in mind; children three to six, six to nine, teenagers, baby boomers, and even seniors. BrainMinders uses puppet shows to educate everyone about the importance of brain safety and the dangers of brain injuries.

The Pilot Club also funds a local dental program for underprivileged children in the Jackson County school system. With referrals from dentists, donations, fundraisers – and a little help from the tooth fairy, this program allows children to receive the dental or orthodontic services they need to keep a healthy smile.

Project Lifesaver is a program that provides radio transmitter bracelets for those who tend to wander away from their home and caregivers due to Alzheimers, autism, dementia, or a number of other disorders. The Pilot Club helps fund this program in the Jackson County area while it is administered by the sheriff’s department.

The Pilot Club of Jackson County sponsors several community events. Each fall they sponsor a Holiday Extravaganza, in the spring they host a Pilot Club Dinner Theater, and in the summer they sponsor a Safety Jamboree.

The Holiday Extravaganza is a Saturday event that allows local crafters and vendors to showcase their items and provides a free event for those in the community to attend. Fees are charged for vendor spaces and the money received goes to help fund other projects through the club.

The annual Pilot Club Dinner Theater is a major fundraiser to support their many projects. The event features performances from talented artists around the area. Attendees enjoy a buffet style meal and are able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the entertainment.

Every summer the Pilot Club sponsors the Safety Jamboree. In cooperation with other organizations, children are able to enjoy a variety of fun, free activities that focus on brain safety. Adults are able to participate as well through information booths, car seat safety checks, and entertainment.

The Pilot Club of Jackson County meets the second Thursday of each month, in the Learning Center at Jackson General Hospital, to discuss upcoming projects and events while sharing in a meal and fellowship.
