It is that time of year again at Heritage Christian Academy. The 43rd graduating class of HCA is about to embark on a new season in their lives.

As a private Christian School, we have smaller classes, and this year we are graduating 6 seniors. Jacob Graham, son of Michael and Angela Graham, is our Valedictorian and Colin Jarrell, son of Scott Jarrell and Amanda DeLong, is the Salutatorian. Also graduating are Joshua McDonald, Jesiree Ruger, Skyler Gandee, and our foreign exchange student from Poland, Przemyslaw Zygmunciak.

HCA was the idea of the pastor and members of Second Baptist Church back in the early 70’s. The thought was to create a Biblically based school that could be offered as an alternative for those who desire something for their children other than public education.

Hot lunches are provided each day and educational field trips are used to enhance the education objectives.

The school started in 1975 and saw the first graduating class in 1977. In the lineage of graduates are business owners, doctors, nurses, missionaries, pastors, teachers, IT workers, boiler makers, chemical plant workers, and a host of other contributions to the world we live in.

Since its inception, HCA has never charged more than $3,000.00 for tuition for one student. The second and third student in the family receives a discount, with the fourth and all other children in the family attending for free. With donations from local churches and other donors, HCA has been able to offer some scholarship money to families who may not be able to afford the entire cost. A minimal sports fee allows students to participate in sports programs such as soccer, girl’s volleyball, girl’s basketball and boy’s basketball. A fully functional gym with locker rooms and weight equipment help add to the program.

HCA was, and still is, the only K4-12 Christian School in Jackson County. They offer all required courses, including science labs, and a host of electives such as art, music, speech, etc. The Abeka program is an aggressive college prep program designed to prepare students for college. An aggressive study of the Bible along with Chapel services every Wednesday prepares the students for the world they will enter and the plan that God may have for their lives.

The current Administrator is Dr. S. Richard Parsons. Dr. Parsons, along with the teachers and staff, look forward to the day they will be able to celebrate the 50th year of the school, which should be in 2024/2025 school year. Until then, they will continue to educate students in a Christian based atmosphere. For more information, contact the school at 304-273-9463.
