A shoplifting call at Walmart led to a drug arrest recently.

Tracy Renee Litten, 37, 302 Ruby Lake Road, Sandyville, was charged with delivery of a controlled substance.

On April 4, the Ripley Police Department received a call about a shoplifter at Walmart. Members of the loss-prevention department reported there was a female in the store concealing items in her purse.

Officer B.L. Hart responded and spoke to loss-prevention staff who pointed out the suspect, who was later identified as Litten, according to a criminal complaint filed in Jackson County Magistrate Court.

Hart made contact with Litten and asked if she had any merchandise in her purse. According to the complaint, she told the officer she had put “a couple things in there.”

Hart searched the bag and found four items that belonged to Walmart; some of them had been taken out of their packages, according to the complaint.

During the search, Hart also found suspected methamphetamine, according to the complaint. Hart took Litten into custody, and transported her to the Ripley Police Department.

During a more thorough search of the bag, Hart found scales and several additional containers of suspected methamphetamine. He also found a total of $1,190 in Litten’s purse, according to the complaint.
