A Ripley man has been charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.

William Stalnaker, 37, of 19 Comfort Lane, Ripley, was charged with two counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian, and two counts of second-degree sexual assault, all felonies.

Magistrate Laura Pursley set bond at $250,000. Stalnaker was incarcerated in South Central Regional Jail.

The girl told deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department that there were two separate incidents, one in November and the other in December. Both occurred while she was hunting with Stalnaker, according to a criminal complaint filed in Jackson County Magistrate Court.

In the first incident, Stalnaker placed a blanket on the ground and asked the girl to cover her face with a shirt, according to the complaint. Stalnaker then allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with the girl.

The second incident occurred in the North Ridge area of Ripley in the same fashion as the first, police allege.

During the investigation, police also recovered text messages between Stalnaker and the girl in which Stalnaker allegedly planned encounters.
