Across the great state of West Virginia, there are plenty of teams who don red and black.
And fortunately at this week’s West Virginia High School State Track and Field Meet there will be lots of Ravenswood’s red and black.
Both the boys team of head coach Todd Murray and Renee Swisher’s Devilettes will be well-represented.
Murray’s Devils hope to make a lot of noise in the boys division of Class A.
For starters, the Jarrell twins – Blake and Bryce – will battle in distance events while Austin Garrett hopes to produce points in the speed area.
The Jarrells will line up for the 800, 1600 and 3200 events at the State Meet, which started today (Friday) and continues tomorrow (Saturday).
The two are also part of the 4x400 team. Garrett and Colton Clark are also parts of that outstanding unit.
Garrett will be competing as an individual in the 100, 200 and 400.
Deshone Cooper will be running in the 1600 and 3200.
He is also a member of the 4x800. Clark, Seth Marra and Mason Stutler will be running the other three legs.
For the Devilettes, both the 4x4 and 4x1 earned berths into State Meet competition.
Kassidy Anderson, Nicole Hurst, Marissa McCoy and Emma Weekley make up the 4x4 team.
Anderson, McCoy and Weekley will be joined by Kaylin Butler on the 4x1.
State Meet action started today at 2 and runs through the evening hours. A full day of competition gets going Saturday morning at 9 with field events. The 400 meters will be the first race on the track at 10 a.m.
