An outstanding season for the Ravenswood Red Devil track and field team continued  Friday  evening at Stadium Field.

Todd Murray’s crew raced its way to a runner-up finish in the Class A Region IV Meet by scoring 111.5 points. Williamstown won the meet with 146.5.

Ravenswood will head to the State Meet  this Friday  and  Saturday  in Charleston with plenty of contenders ready to score points.

The annual season-ending competition featuring the best of the best in West Virginia will take place at University of Charleston Stadium/Laidley Field.

Blake Jarrell, Bryce Jarrell and Austin Garrett, all juniors, turned in dynamite performances for the Devils.

Blake Jarrell won both the 800 meters and 1600 meters. He took the 800 in a time of 2:06.94 and was clocked at 4:40.91 in the 1600.

Twin brother Bryce won the 3200 with a time of 10:35.57.

Garrett was a winner in the 400, blazing the one-lap race in a time of 52.48.

The Jarrells and Garrett teamed up with another junior, Colton Clark, to win the 4x400 in a time of 3:38.70.

Bryce Jarrell was second in the 800 (2:07.27) and the 1600 (4:41.16). Garrett was second in the 100 (12.00) and the 200 (23.96).    Blake Jarrell finished behind Bryce in the 3200 meters (10:35.67).

Ravenswood’s 4x800 unit (9:36.57) placed third with Clark, sophomore Deshone Cooper, freshman Seth Marra and freshman Mason Stutler forming the foursome. Cooper was fourth in the 1600 (5:03.24) along with the 4x200 squad (1:43.55), made up of freshman Joe Chambers, Clark, sophomore Clay Tanner and Stutler.

Cooper also placed fifth in the 3200 (10:44.55) and tied for that spot in the high jump (5-04).    Clark took fifth in the 400 (56.17). Another fifth place finish was turned in by the 4x100 squad (50.68). Tanner, Chambers, sophomore Jon Chen and Marra teamed up in that event.

Ravenswood’s Devilettes put 16 points on the board in the girls division.

Relay scoring was the story of the meet for Renee Swisher’s team.

The 4x100 squad (58.42) led the way with a second place finish. Junior Kassidy Anderson, junior Kaylin Butler, senior Marissa McCoy and sophomore Emma Weekley competed in that relay.

The 4x2 (2:03.57) and 4x4 teams (5:04.20) each placed fourth  on Friday.

Making up the 4x2 team were Anderson, freshman Julie Barnette, McCoy and Weekley.

The 4x4 unit featured Anderson, junior Nicole Hurst, McCoy and Weekley.

State Meet competition gets going  Friday  afternoon at  2 p.m.  and will go until around 9. Action resumes at  9 a.m.  on Saturday  with field events. The 400 meters will start a full day of running at  10 a.m.  The awards ceremony is slated for the 5 o’clock hour.
