Three wins in completely different ways were awarded to Ripley’s girls softball program late last week.

The trio of victories was produced on the road, starting with an 8-0 shutout of a solid Roane County program on Thursday.

  The Lady Vikings followed up the win by taking two on Saturday across the Ohio River at Meigs Local. The doubleheader sweep of the Lady Marauders included a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the nightcap.

 The three wins had Ripley at 10-7 going into action tonight (Tuesday) at home against Riverside. The Lady Vikings were scheduled to play at Point Pleasant tomorrow (Wednesday) and host South Charleston Thursday.


Ripley 8-Roane County 0

 Jaelyn Hunt went the distance in the pitching circle with a two-hit shutout. Hunt struck out eight and walked two in the win.

 At the plate, Grace Walsh was 2-2 with a pair of home runs. The freshman catcher drove home three of Ripley’s eight runs.

 Paige Swisher was 3-3 with two doubles, a triple and a RBI. Katie Sinclair was 2-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Hunt was 2-4 while also driving home a run. Cassidy Young was 1-4 and Jahlea Bumpus went 1-3.

 The Lady Vikings scored a run in the first inning to take a lead they would never relinquish. Ripley added two more in the third and fifth and finished it up with three in the top of the sixth.


Ripley 11-Meigs 8 (Game 1)

 After falling behind 1-0 following the first inning of play, Ripley plated four runners in the top of the second and held the advantage the rest of the way. The Lady Vikings had another big inning in the fifth with five runs and added two more in the sixth.

  Ripley banged out 16 hits in the Game 1 win.

 Pitching-wise, Hunt went five innings. During her time in the circle she allowed five hits, four runs (three earned, walked six and struck out two. Bumpus and Chloe Shinn also pitched.

 At the plate, Swisher, Hunt and Tori Hinzman all had three hits. One of Swisher’s was a homer. Hunt had a pair of runs batted in. Hinzman had a pair of extra base hits with a double and triple while driving home a run. Walsh was 2-4 with and brought home two runs. Young had a double and a RBI, Bumpus had a hit and a RBI and Taylor collected a hit.


Ripley 13-Meigs 8 (Game 2)

 Talk about an epic comeback, Game 2 will certainly be one to remember.

 Trailing 8-2 in the top of the seventh and down to its final out, all Ripley did was explode for 11 runs to pull out a thrilling 13-8 victory.

  Walsh had a hand in the big inning with a grand slam. Young was 4-5 with a triple and drove home three. Hinzman was 2-4 with two RBI, Swisher was 2-5, Hunt went 2-4, Sarah Brannon was 2-3, Bumpus had a hit and two RBI and Kyra Winter collected a hit in one official trip to the plate.

 Both Ripley and Meigs banged out 15 hits.

  Hunt pitched five innings, giving up two runs (both earned) on eight hits. She struck out four and didn’t allow a walk. Shinn went two innings in the circle, giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits.
