JACKSON COUNTY - The Community Foundation of Jackson County is now accepting applications for 2017 scholarships.  The application deadline for the 2017 community scholarships is March 1, 2017. The following scholarships are available:

*Law Offices of Harris & Holmes Community Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Jackson County High Schools and Jackson County resident.

• Must be pursuing a full-time degree at a two-year or four-year accredited technical school, college or university.

• Minimum grade point average of 3.0.

• Selection based on academic excellence, community service and financial need.

• Preference to a student pursuing a degree or certification in the legal services field (law, paralegal, or related job in the legal field).

   

*Viking Voices Scholarship -Mike Ruben Honorarium & John Rice Memorial Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Ripley High School.

• Preference to deserving students who have demonstrated excellence in academics and athletics.

• Preference to students with strong record of athletic involvement and achievement.

 

*Ripley Rotary – Judge Oliver Kessel Memorial Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Ripley High School.

• Minimum 2.0 GPA.

• Selection based on financial need and strong record of community service.

 

*Ripley Rotary - James Robinson Memorial Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Ripley High School or currently enrolled full-time at WVU-P Jackson Center.

• Minimum 2.0 GPA.

• Selection based on financial need and strong record of community service.

 

*Sara Gwisdalla Memorial Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Ripley High School.

• Minimum 3.0 GPA.

• Selection based on financial need and strong record of community service.

 

*Rod Hudson Memorial Scholarship 

• Graduating seniors of Ripley or Ravenswood High School and must be a Jackson County resident. Last year was RHS, so this year preference will be RWHS.

• Minimum 3.2 GPA.

• Must have participated in high school sports for at least one year as a player or manager.

• Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a four-year college or university.

• Selection based on academic achievement, strong record of community service, sports participation, and financial need. Community service and sports participation more heavily weighted than financial need. 

 

*Bill Woofter Sr. Memorial Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Ripley High School.

• Minimum 2.0 GPA.

• Must be pursuing a degree in education or health care.

• Selection based on financial need and strong record of community service.

 

*Conrad and Edra McCoy Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Jackson County High Schools and Jackson County resident.

• Must plan to enroll at an accredited college, university or technical school.

• Selection based on financial need and strong record of community service, specifically having to overcome obstacles.

 

*Dr. Charles Kelly Memorial Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Jackson County High Schools.

• Must be planning to attend Marshall University.

• Selection based on financial need.

 

*James Porter Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Ravenswood High School.

• Must be a member of the band.

•Selection based on financial need.

 

*Deborah Gandee Dudding Memorial Scholarship

• Graduating seniors of Ravenswood High School.

• Minimum 2.5 GPA.

• Preference to students who have a commitment to the growth, development, and/or well-being of children, with financial need who have exhibited a record of community service and have a balance of academic and extracurricular interests. 

 

*Jackson County Community Foundation Scholarship

• Must be a Jackson County resident.

• May be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate enrolled in a post-secondary institution.

• Must be enrolled or planning to attend post-secondary educational institution in the upcoming year. 

• Must be two or four-year undergraduate degree or a vocational or technical program.

Minimum 2.0 GPA.

Selection based on financial need, academic achievement, and involvement in school and community activities.

Preference to students not already receiving other significant scholarship support, including the WV Promise Scholarship.

 

*Ravenswood High School Friends and Alumni Scholarship

Graduating seniors or previous graduates within the past ten years of Ravenswood High School.

Previous recipients may apply and be considered along with new applicants.

Minimum 2.0 GPA.

Must be pursuing a degree or certification at a trade or technical school or accredited college or university.

May be undergraduate or graduate students. 

Selection based on financial need and strong record of participation in community service activities.

 

*Harold E. and Catherine Cook Fox Memorial Scholarship

Graduating seniors of Ravenswood High School.

Minimum 2.75 GPA.

Preference first to students attending WVU at Morgantown or Potomac State College as a full-time student. Second preference to a student attending WVU-Parkersburg. If there are no applicants attending any of these institutions- any WV public college or university will be considered. 

Must be pursuing a degree in nursing, agriculture or forestry.

Selection based on financial need, academics and community involvement.

 

*The Randolph Scholarship – In memory of Lola Randolph & in honor of Everett Randolph

Graduating seniors of Jackson County High Schools and residents of Jackson County.

Minimum 2.0 GPA.

Selection based on financial need.

Preference to students with extensive involvement in JC 4-H Programs.

 

*Pat Shimp Memorial Scholarship

Graduating seniors of Roane County High Schools.

Must be pursuing a degree in business, agriculture, nursing or health-care related fields.

Minimum 2.0 GPA.

Selection based on record of community service.

 

*Beulah M. & Everrett O. Shimp Memorial Scholarship

Graduating seniors of Jackson or Roane County High Schools or students currently enrolled as a full-time college student and has completed credits equivalent to junior or senior status. 

Minimum 3.0 GPA.

Must be majoring in nursing (RN degree), physical therapy, elementary education, early childhood education, art, music or pursing an education degree majoring in art, music or the fine arts.

Selection based on financial need.

Marcus McPhail Memorial Scholarship 

Graduating seniors of Jackson and Calhoun Counties.

Must be residents of Jackson or Calhoun County.

Minimum 2.0 GPA.

Selection based on financial need, string work ethic and participation in high school athletics and community service.

The Foundation uses a general application form for ALL of the scholarships. This application form is available at the guidance counselor’s office at Ripley High School and Ravenswood High School, at the main office at WVU-P Jackson County Center and at the Community Foundation of Jackson County located at 108 North Church Street in the City National Bank building. All scholarship applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2017.   

Many of the community scholarship funds are building to endowment.  Donations to these funds are always welcome and will be acknowledged by the Community Foundation for tax deductibility. Gifts can be sent to the JCCF, Inc., 108 North Church Street, Ripley, WV 25271.
