RAVENSWOOD - Again Friday night at Flinn Field, Ravenswood’s Red Devils fell victim to an opposing premier running back, as Clay County’s Zachary Ahart rambled over, around and through the defense for 316 yards (on 21 carries) and scored five touchdowns.

Clay County set the tone for the night by returning the opening kickoff 80 yards for touchdown (Austin Dobbins). Before the crowd has settled into their seats (11:47 first quarter), the Panthers led 8-0 as Dobbins tacked the two-point conversion onto his kick return with a run.

Ravenswood answered with a six-play, 73-yard drive capped by Ryan Cunningham’s 37-yard field goal at the 8:46 mark of the opening quarter to trim the Clay advantage to 8-3.

Less than 90 seconds later, Ahart scored his first TD of the night on a 49-yard run, exploiting the Devils’ defensive perimeter—a trend that continued throughout the game. Ahart’s jaunt capped a quick, three-play, 52 yard march with 7:19 still left in the opening quarter. The run for two points was stuffed, and Clay led 14-3.

Ahart scored again on a six-yard run less than two minutes later to cap another quick, four-play, 55-yard march. The run for two failed and Clay led 20-3 with 5:42 left in the first quarter.

Ravenswood answered with a quick scoring march of their own, moving 75 yards in five plays. Senior Colton Stovall caught a Stephen Dawson pass behind the defense and raced 35 yards for the touchdown. Cunningham booted the PAT kick and Clay led 20-10 with 4:02 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers scored the only points of the second quarter on a 45-yard run by Ahart on a one-play scoring drive (6:06 second quarter). Dobbins added the two-point conversion on a run and Clay took a 28-10 lead to the locker room at the half.

Clay County put the game out of reach in the third quarter with three more TDs. Ahart scored on a nine-yard run with 7:24 left in the quarter to cap a nine-play, 75-yard march. Ahart scored on a 55-yard run to cap a two-play drive off a pass interception with 5:31 left in the third quarter. Dobbins raced 35 yards for the Panthers’ final TD of the night on the final play of the third quarter. Ahart added the two-point conversion on a run.

Ravenswood then answered with their final points of the night on a four-yard TD pass from Dawson to Devin Haid to cap a 19-play, 64-yard drive with 2:19 left in the fourth quarter. The PAT kick failed to make the final score 47-16.
