PARKERSBURG – It could have been worse.

Coming off last week’s 24-7 loss to Class A No. 1-rated St. Marys, Coach Mick Price’s Ravenswood Red Devils (7-2) slipped into a tie for No. 10 in the second-to-last WVSSAC Class AA Football Ratings released Tuesday.

The Red Devils have a rating of 9.11, tying them with Liberty Raleigh (8-1, 9.11) at No. 10.

Ravenswood was tied for No. 6 with Keyser (6-2) prior Friday night’s loss. Keyser (now 6-3) also lost (to unbeaten 9-0 rival Frankfort, 28-27) and is currently ranked at No. 9 with a 9.44 rating.

Bridgeport (8-1, 12.56) is No. 1 in this week’s AA ratings, followed by No. 2 Frankfort (9-0, 12.44); No. 3 Wayne (8-1, 12.22); No. 4 Mingo Central (8-1, 12.00); No. 5 Bluefield (8-1, 11.78); No. 6 Westside (8-2, 10.20); No. 7 Nicholas County (8-1, 9.89); No. 8 Robert C. Byrd (7-2, 9.67); No. 9 Keyser (6-3, 9.44); No. 10 (tie) Liberty Raleigh (8-1, 9.11); No. 10 (tie) RAVENSWOOD (7-2, 9.11); No. 12 Weir (8-2, 9.10); No. 13 Fairmont Senior (6-3, 8.44); No. 14 Scott (6-3, 8.22); No. 15 Sissonville (6-3, 8.00); No. 16 Wyoming East (6-3, 7.44); No. 17 Herbert Hoover (5-4, 6.22); No. 18 Grafton (5-4, 5.89); No. 19 Liberty Harrison (5-5, 5.80); and No. 20 Clay County (5-4, 5.78).

Despite a dismal showing versus the St. Marys Blue Devils, Ravenswood appears unofficially locked for a AA payoff berth, win or lose in Friday night’s Hatchet game. Yet the Devils still have a shot at moving up in the final AA ratings ladder to an improved playoff position, if they can defeat Ripley (3-6) in Friday night’s Hatchet Game at Flinn Field.

How far remains to be seen with the outcome of the final games Friday night and resulting bonus points.

The final two spots in the Top 8, who will host a first round playoff game, are yet to be decided.

A win over the Vikings (3-6) is worth 15 points (12 for the defeated AAA opponent and one point for each opponent defeated in the same class or higher—3).

The Red Devils also have the chance to pick up an additional five (5) bonus points Friday night as defeated opponents play their final regular season games.

One bonus point is guaranteed with opponents Clay County and Webster County squaring off at Webster. Other bonus points are possible if Wahama defeats Buffalo at Buffalo, Williamstown defeats Roane County at Spencer; Ritchie County defeats Grafton at Ellenboro; and Braxton County wins at Sissonville (the most unlikely of the lot).

However, everything and anything begins with winning Friday night’s Hatchet Game at Flinn Field.

Two of the Top 16 AA teams have completed their seasons—No. 6 Westside (8-2, 10.20) and No. 12 Weir (8-2, 9.10).
No. 3 Wayne (8-1, 12.22) hosts No. 5 Bluefield (8-1, 11.78) on Friday.

Other games of note include: No. 1 Bridgeport at AAA Preston; No. 2 Frankfort at AAA Hampshire; No. 4 Mingo Central at Mt. View (0-9); No. 7 Nicholas County at A Richwood; No. 8 Robert C. Bryd home vs. Philip Barbour (1-8); No. 9 Keyser at Mountain Ridge, MD (2-7); No. 10 Liberty Raleigh home to No. 16 Wyoming East (6-3); No. 13 Fairmont Senior home vs. East Fairmont (3-6); No. 14 Scott home versus AAA Logan; No. 15 Sissonville home versus Braxton County (3-6); No. 17 Herbert Hoover home versus AAA Nitro; No. 18 Grafton at Ritchie County (3-6); and No. 20 Clay County at Webster County (2-7).
