SILVERTON - Firemen had to return to Sandy Creek Farms Tuesday afternoon when fire which ravaged the business on Monday rekindled.

The initial blaze was reported around 11:34 a.m. Monday, after a reported grease fire inside the smokehouse area of the country store spread despite efforts by employees to extinguish it.

Units from the Silverton, Ravenswood and Ripley volunteer fire departments responded to fight the blaze which quickly engulfed the store. Hampering their efforts were several inches of ice and snow that made area roads treacherous for vehicles.

Firefighters who went inside the building to fight the fire were called back moments before the roof collapsed. There were no reported injuries.

The blaze was deemed extinguished at shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, but rekinded Tuesday afternoon and had to be doused again.
No damage estimate has been set for the facility and its contents.
