Raymond H. Griest, 81 passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2013 in Ripley, WV surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born December 4, 1932 in Spring Hill, WV to Theron and Goldie Peal Griest. Ray married Monna Jean Pauley on September 8, 1951. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Earl Griest and his grandson Michael Motes.

Ray served his country in the US Army in Germany having entered the service in 1953 and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army Reserves in 1961. He was employed at Kaiser Aluminum until his retirement in 1982 and then worked for the State of West Virginia for 10 years.

He enjoyed coaching youth sports and loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was proud of each of them and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Monna Jean Griest; son Rick (Candy) Griest; daughters Carolyn (Ted) Motes, Judy (Bruce) Gossett and Mitsy (Luke) Hunter; grandchildren Joe (Paige) Gossett, Ryan Hunter, Sarah (Josh) Kyer, Jessica Motes, Thomas Motes Kodie and Kaylee Griest; great grandchildren Liam and Isabella Gossett and Colby Kyler and his sister Delphine Snodgrass.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Staff of Eldercare of Ripley and Jackson General Hospital for their kind and gentle care of their loving husband and father. And a special thanks to Dr. John Snyder for caring for Ray with dignity and respect.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Pastor Rick Perrine officiating. Entombment will follow at the Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston.  Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
