Brothers Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlberg came together on Monday night to introduce their newest venture, a burger-based restaurant called Wahlburgers, located in Hingham Shipyard.  The brothers and family friend Ed St. Croix held a private invitation-only party for their friends and family to launch the opening of the establishment.

Chef Paul Wahlberg said that opening a burger restaurant has been his dream.  “I am so passionate about this,” he said. He said that he realizes that there are many other restaurants that specialize in burgers, but that he doesn’t feel the need to compete.

“I am in competition with myself,” he said. And while he would eventually like to expand the restaurant, it isn’t his main concern at the moment. “I need to focus on this one location and do it right. If opportunities come up later on, great. But like I said, my main concern is this restaurant here.”

Donnie commented that the night was really about Paul.

“This is his dream,” he said. “And it’s great to do this as a family. It’s a lot easier to say something to your family rather than a stranger. I can call him out on anything. I can bring up something he did when he was 14 and not worry about it. It’s just better as a family. You can cut through the baloney.”

Donnie joked that Paul had attempted to teach him and Mark about different types of cheeses to use on the burgers.

Mark said that Wahlburgers is the perfect project for Paul.

“He’s a five-star chef, but all he’ll eat are burgers! I’m serious. He goes out and eats a burger everywhere he goes. From one place to the next. He always makes them for himself. And he really believes that he is going to make every single burger here!”

Celebrity guests were also on hand to support the Wahlberg family. Red Sox players David Ortiz and Kevin Youklis, Patriot players, including Kyle Arrington and Rob Gronkowski, and boxer Micky Ward, whom Mark portrayed in last year’s movie "The Fighter," came out to celebrate with the brothers.
