RAVENSWOOD – Coach Wes Swain’s Red Devils (20-7) will open a best-of-three-games series for the Class A Region IV crown and a berth in the West Virginia State Baseball Tournament today (Tuesday) at Wright Field versus the Buffalo Bison (14-14).
Bison pitcher Ian O’Donnell pitched the Bison to a 5-0 shutout victory over St. Joseph Friday night at home to claim the Class A Region 4 Section 2 crown in a winner-take-all elimination game. O’Donnell struck out 13 and scattered six hit in the shutout win for the Bison.
The Red Devils beat Buffalo twice during the regular season, 10-0 at Wright Field and 8-3 at Buffalo.
Ravenswood pounced two-time defending state champion Wahama, 13-0 and 10-0 in five innings to lay claim to the Section 1 title.
Junior Chase Swain will get the ball on the mound for the Red Devils in the series opener today.
Game 2 is set for Wednesday at Buffalo and Game 3, if necessary, will be back at Wright Field on Thursday.
The Red Devils feature a potent hitting lineup that mixes power, speed and aggressiveness.
