WEST UNION - Red Devil senior Hayden Mandrake set the tone by returning the opening kickoff 62 yards to the Doddridge County 12, and Ravenswood jumped on the Bulldogs quickly and raced to a 38-0 win Friday night at Cline Stansberry Stadium.
Alex Casto ran for 204 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Red Devils. It was the Devils’ third straight win, and a dominant performance heading into this open week.
Casto scored from five yards out to cap a three-play, 12 yard drive following Mandrake’s opening 62-yard kickoff return. Ryan Cunningham booted the PAT and Ravenswood led 7-0 just 1:34 into the game.
Ravenswood forced a three and out to the host Buldogs on their first possession and scored again with 6:44 left in the opening quarter on a 48-yard pass from Max Hilton to Jake Greene to cap a four-play, 71-yard drive. Cunningham booted the PAT for a 14-0 lead.
The Devils got the ball right back on an onside kick recovered by Cunningham. A 14-play, 46-yard march was capped by Hilton on a one-yard plunge. Cunningham booted the PAT and the Devils led 21-0 with 10:54 left in the second quarter.
Just under five minutes later, the Devils scored again. Casto capped a seven-play, 52-yard drive with a one-yard run. Cunningham booted the PAT, and the Devils led 28-0 with 6:01 left in the first half.
Doddridge put together their only serious scoring threat of the game on the ensuing series, driving inside the Ravenswood 10. But junior defensive lineman Luke Radabaugh picked off a middle screen pass and returned it 20 yards. He fumbled while being tackled but Jake Greene recovered.
Just two plays later, Casto broke loose on a 61-yard touchdown gallop. Cunningham booted the PAT and Ravenswood led 35-0 with no time left on the clock at the half.
The only scoring of the second half came with 29.3 seconds left in the third quarter, when Ryan Cunningham booted a 39-yard field goal to make the final score 38-0.
On the night, Casto led the Ravenswood rushing attack with 36 carries for 204 yards and three TDs. Hayden Mandrake added four carries fro 22 yards; Luke Jackson, two carrirs for 10 yards; Max Hilton, two carries for nine yards; Sam Sturm, two carries for minus one yard; and Nik Taylor, one carry for minus five yards. Teamwise, Ravenswood carried 47 times for 239 rushing yards.
Max Hilton completed two of six passes for 79 yards and a TD with one interception. Sam Sturm tried one pass that fell incomplete. Jake Green had one catch for 48 yards (TD); and Nik Taylor, one for 31 yards.
Ravenswood totaled 318 offensive yards with 17 first downs (14 via rush, two via pass and one via penalty) and drew two flags for 15 penalty yards.
Cunningham kicked off six times with a 47.17-yard average, and did not punt in the game.
Mandrake had one kickoff return for 62 yards.
Hunter Riffle carried 10 times for 82 yards to lead the Bulldogs’ rushing attack (21 carries for 92 net yards).
Riffle completed one of three passes for three yards; and Colt Corder completed four of 11 passes for 28 yards with an interception.
Doddridge County was limited to 123 offensive yards with five first downs (three via rush, one via pass and one via penalty), and drew three flags for 20 penalty yards.
On defense, Luke Jackson led the Devils with seven tackles. Ethan Mahan (TFL) and Kenley Hickman had six tackles each; Alex Casto (PBU, FR) and Hayden Mandrake (PBU), five each; Luke Radabaugh (interception), Ryan Cunningham (onside kick recovery), Max Hilton, Jacob White and Wayne Stephenson, two each; and Jake Greene (FR), Ryan Blackburn, Elijah Benson, Nik Taylor and Devin Haid, one each.
Ravenswood, now 4-4, has an open date this week, before traveling to take on unbeaten St. Marys (October 28) and then hosts cross county rival Ripley (November 4) at Flinn Field in what is mostly likely the final Hatchet game.
