Whatever happened to manners? It used to be that “Please”, “Thank you” and “Excuse me” were part of the everyday vocabulary.
Recently I looked in the mirror and discovered that time has caught up with me. Crow’s feet, laugh lines and wrinkles have taken over skin that was once smooth as a baby’s bottom. As I peered at my reflection I gave a little disgusted groan for the pesky gray hairs that are scattered on my head and shine like tinsel on a Christmas tree and wished that there were fewer of them.
I first met Pete Gould 56 years ago on a school bus. It was 1956, and I was a new Ravenswood High School freshman, whose family had just arrived from Spokane, Washington.

I had someone tell me that people come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. I hadn’t really thought about it before, but I have mulled it over and find that I agree.
What is the definition of fun? According to the dictionary, if it is used as an adjective, it means: providing enjoyment or amusement. On the other hand it can also mean cheap and gaudy- flamboyant in style and often made of low-cost synthetic materials.
I truly believe that everyone should try to do some type of community service. Not for the glory that one thinks it will bring, but for the inner satisfaction that comes with helping another person or paying a good deed forward.
Another Christmas looms around the corner and the fact that season starts earlier each year has ceased to surprise me. Whatever happened to at least getting Thanksgiving out of the way before thinking about Christmas?
