Robert (Bob) Franklin Slayton, 75, of Ravenswood died Monday, June 29, 2009, in Ravenswood after a long illness. 

He was born October 30, 1933, in Coalwood, a son of Carl and Janis Mae Whitt Slayton. 

He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force.  While in the service, he attended Fort Sam Houston Medical College and worked in the emergency and surgery departments.  By trade, Bob was a self-employed contractor and was responsible for the construction and remodeling of many private and commercial buildings.  He was a trader by nature and even had the CB handle of “Sand Bank Trader.”

He is survived by daughters Connie Simmons of Phoenix, AZ, and Phyllis (Edward) Lloyd, Cincinnati, OH; brothers Marshall (Iva) Slayton of Pt. Pleasant, Vernon (Anne) Slayton of Winston-Salem, NC, and Mike (Emma Lou) Slayton of Belle; sisters Margie (Orville) White of Pt. Pleasant, Emma Jean Osborne of Hammond, IN, Geraldine Zickafoose of Montgomery, Eileen Mullins of Ansted, and Anna Mae Duncan of Cannelton; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends; and special friends Lucille Naylor and Oliver Pifer, both of Ravenswood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Lou.

Funeral service will be held Friday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, WV, with Reverend Johnny Syner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Montgomery Memorial Park in London.

Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home on Thursday, July 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
