Adam Matthew Staats, 39, of Millwood departed this life Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, surrounded by his family, after a valiant fight with cancer.
He was born September 16, 1969, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of Carroll and Virginia “Jenny” Hardman Staats of Ravenswood.
He was employed by Alcan Aluminum, previously Pechiney, of Ravenswood, for 15 years and a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 5668. Adam was a proficient, competitive bodybuilder and a member of the National Physique Committee. He was active in competitive bodybuilding in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and South Carolina, where he won numerous championship trophies on the state and regional levels. Adam was a graduate of Ravenswood High School and attended Coastal Carolina University and West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and cats, Slyvie, Tinker, Reese and Hisser. Adam attended Independent Fellowship Church, Ravenswood.
In addition to his parents, Adam is survived by his loving wife, Lori Ann (Stanley) Staats, the light of his life and life partner in everything; sister Anne-Marie Staats; niece Taylor Combs; aunts and uncles Bob and Carol Staats, Eleanor VanKirk, Bernard and Helen Staats, John and Carolyn Staats, Rose Staats, and Betty Tidd, all of Ravenswood, Juanita Cline of Beaver Falls, PA, Larry and Nedia Staats of Paden City, Grace Staats of Bradenton, FL, Cole and Diana Staats of Murraysville, Jim and Rhonda Staats of Vienna, and Linda and Aaron Mollohan of Huntington.
Funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5, at Independent Fellowship Church, 713 Washington St., Ravenswood, with the Rev. Allen Stewart officiating. Visitation was from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the church.
