EVANS – Roderick Keith ”Rod” Hudson, 55, of Evans, passed away July 19, 2010 at CAMC, Memorial Division.
He was born May 3, 1955 in Rochester, PA, a son of the late, Thomas Raymond and Freda Lenore (Sheppard) Hudson.
He was the owner and operator Jackson County Heating and Cooling. He was a 1973 graduate of Ripley High School where he was an outstanding athlete, lettering in three different sports. He was a WVSSAC official in all sports—boys and girls. He coached various youth sports teams in the 80’s and early 90’s.
Rod was also a past president of the Ripley Midget League, a member of the Ripley High School Athletic Boosters, and was instrumental in the fund raising and construction of the Chancey-Walker Athletic Building. He enjoyed playing golf and was a Yankee fan.
He was a member of Ripley Lodge #16 AF & AM, and a former member of the JC’s. He was a Baptist by faith and an organ donor.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Beverly Sue (Pitts) Hudson; son, Erick Hudson of Evans; daughter and her husband, Trindi and Dave Doughty of Fort Knox, KY; grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with, Kaylee Brook Doughty and David Junior “D.J.” Doughty; sister, and her husband, Debbie and Mike Bright of Fairplain; brothers and their wives, John and Vickie Hudson of Ravenswood, and Randy and Monica Hudson of Columbia, SC.
Service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, July 23, at the Ripley High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Herman Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, with Masonic Graveside rites by Ripley Lodge #16, AF & AM. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Ripley Athletic Boosters.
