Ida Catherine Matheny Winter, 77, of Ripley passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Ravenswood Care Center.

She was born December 2, 1931, in Gay, a daughter to the late Mirrel and Leola Waybright Matheny. 

She was a magistrate assistant in Jackson County for many years and a member of Grasslick Baptist Church and active in the American Baptist Women. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Allen Nathaniel “Jack” Winter; brothers Mirrel Matheny, Jr., Wayne Matheny, and Denver Clair Matheny.

She is survived by sons Stephen Paul Winter of Ripley, James “Jim” Michael Winter (Tammy) of Ripley, and John Scott Winter of Petersburg, KY; daughter Debra Joyce Holley (Tim) of Ripley; brother Donald Matheny (Leona) of Rockport; sisters Virginia Durst (Keith) of Mt. Alto and Freda Parsons of Reynoldsburg, OH; grandchildren Steven Holley (Tina), Richard Holley (Nisha), Beth Holley, Curtis Winter, Loren Winter, and Ashley Higginbotham; great-grandchildren Nolan May and Wyatt Holley; along with many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grasslick Baptist Church with burial following in the Fairplain Cemetery. 

Friends may call Wednesday, July 1, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grasslick Baptist Church Building Fund or Kanawha Hospice, 1001 Kennawa Dr., Charleston, WV  25311.
