Leona Jane Parsons, 77, of Nitro passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born October 11, 1931, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Dan and Mettie Casto Parsons. She was a retired food service worker from Charleston Area Medical Center, Women’s and Children’s Division. She was a member of the Stonelick Church in Kenna.

Survivors include sister Mae Huffman, niece Sherri Cheak (Herbert) of Cross Lanes, nephew Bobby Parsons (Linda) of Ripley, and great-nephews Tim and Rick Parsons of Ripley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister Naomi Tolley.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor William Maires officiating. Interment followed at the Parsons family cemetery at Kenna.

Friends called at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
