RAVENSWOOD – Mary Catherine Twiggs, 95, of Ravenswood, passed away July 3, 2010.
She was born October 25, 1914 in Newark, OH. She later moved to Coraopolis, PA, living there for 14 years before moving to Parkersburg. She graduated from Parkersburg High School with the Class of 1934.
She was employed at J.C. Penny and Montgomery Ward Department stores and was a teletypist at Western Union Telegraph in Parkersburg. She was a former reporter for the Parkersburg Sentinel, and when the Plaza of Ravenswood was built, she was a teletypist for Sears Catalog Shore and worked 17 years as a babysitter.
She married her late husband, Roff Twiggs on September 25, 1942 and moved to Ravenswood. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ravenswood, and was a past High Priestess of the Hathor Court No. 3 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine.
Her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne and Ed Barnette of Ripley, and a nephew, Ray Roff Ritchie of Ravenswood, survive her.
In addition to her husband, Roff Twiggs, and a daughter, Miriam Jean Beegle also preceded her in death.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with John Gunther officiating. Burial will follow in the Ravenswood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service.
