Eugene Paul Straley, 85, passed away peacefully August 13, 2017 at his home.
He was the son of the late Paul Washington and Eva Lillian (Nethercutt) Straley, and a life long resident of Ripley, West Virginia.
He was a 30 year member of the Ripley Volunteer Fire Department, owner of Straley Gas Service of Ripley, active in various community and civic positions, and was an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary Frances (Progler) Straley; Children Paula Suzanne (Straley) Sayre of Ripley, Julie Celeste (Robert) Winebrenner of Ripley, Leland Scott Straley of Ripley, and Gene Kent Straley of Ravenswood; Grandchildren Amanda Ellis Winland (Brandon); Adam Paul Ellis, Andrea Ellis Donohew (Chad); Cassidy S. Sayre, Robert D. Winebrenner, Jr., Timothy Winebrenner (Ashley), and Rabecca Kokko. Great-grandchildren include Ava Rose Winland, Addyson Elaine Donohew, Savannah Joy Winland, Amelia Reign Donohew, Aziah River Ellis, Eden Winebrenner, Hailey Winebrenner, Bentley Winebrenner, Brook Long, Statin Long, and Lynsey Long.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by infant great-grandson Ethan Wayne Donohew.
In honoring his wishes a private family graveside will be held with Pastor Chris Skeen officiating.
“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lod shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God… (I Thessalonians 4:13-16)
