Frederick Joseph “Joe” Stobart, 85, went to be with his God and his Christ on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Joe was born on August 25, 1931 in Racine, Ohio, son of the late James Benjamin “Ben” Stobart and the late Crystal Anna Coe Stobart. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Earlene Carol Proffitt Stobart, on July 28, 2015.
Joe graduated from Racine Southern High School in Racine, Ohio. He served in the United States Marine Corps and also served in the Korean War in Operations Intelligence. He attended The Ohio State University for one year, but was unable to return due to family circumstances. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Racine, Ohio and was an energetic entrepreneur, buying/selling land, leasing land for oil and gas wells, and also co-owned Magnum Gas and Oil with his best friend, Larry Birch.
Joe was a member of the American Legion in Racine, loved to hunt and travel west, and was an avid and staunch Republican. He was also a huge sports fan. He loved his Racine Southern Tornadoes and loved to support them. He was also a fan of Ohio State Football and the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Joe’s faith was extremely important to him! He was a member and was an elder in the priesthood of the Community of Christ church (Portland-Racine Branch) formerly known as The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was prolific in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and sharing his testimony of God and Christ with others.
He is survived by his children, Joy Stobart Neal and husband, Chuck, Portland, Ohio, stepsons: Darrell Norris and wife, Jan, Racine, Ohio; Steve Norris and wife, Armintha, Portland, Ohio; grandchildren, Cody and wife, Ashley, and Hunter, Tracy and husband, Bill, Ryan and wife, Jody, and Anita, and husband, Bryan; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Tyler, Baylee and Jarrett, Marlo and Ali, and Mariah, Nevaeh and Jacob; sister, Isabelle Stobart Couch, Ravenswood, West Virginia; and special caregiver, Tracy Patterson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Earlene, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Myrtle Proffitt; brothers: Chester Owen Stobart, Sydney, Stobart, Thomas Stobart; and sisters; Doris Miller, Dorothy Cardwell, Anna Roush, and Phyllis Johnson.
He was also preceded in death by his best friend, Larry Birch, who was like a brother to him and by a special friend, Jim Cummings. Both of these men were brothers in Christ to him.
Services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Community of Christ Church with Elder Denny Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Letart Falls Cemetery, Racine, Ohio. (The church is located on Lovett Road off of county road 35 (Portland Road) in Portland, Ohio. It is located behind the Lebanon Township Garage.)
Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, West Virginia, on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
