Larry Wayne “Butch” Pepper, Sr. 74 of Silverton, WV departed this life on July 19, 2017 at the Ravenswood Village Center. He received “Outstanding” care from the staff at the village for which his family is truly grateful.

Butch was given the gift of life on January 4, 1943. Born to Burhl and Ruth Pepper of Silverton, WV.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Rita Rhodes Pepper, four wonderful sons; Larry (Janette) Pepper of Silverton, Scott Pepper of Sandyville, Colby (Misty) Pepper of Silverton and Kiley (Mercie) Pepper of Ripley, WV. Five precious grandchildren, Brett, Chase, Colton, Jaylyn, and Cayla; and one great grandchild, Riley. He is also survived by three siblings; Judy Pepper (Jerry) Addison, Lyn Pepper, and Sharlona (Duane Morgan); and many nieces and nephews and treasured family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burhl and Ruth Angus Pepper.

Butch graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1961 where he lettered in Football. Many of his high school buddies have remained his lifelong friends. He was a race car builder and racer in his “Pepper Shaker” and an accomplished drummer in the rock-n-roll band called Cold Creek. He Served 4 years in the U.S. Airforce with an honorable discharge, earning a certification as 1st Class tool and die maker. Employed by Ames Corporation and a graduate of Labor and Society from WVU. Butch was owner/operator of the I-77 Machine Shop and in 1978 he completed New Staff training for USWA. In 1976 Butch was appointed as Union Staff Representative for United Steel Workers of America, where he earned the title of Assistant Director of the East Coast from which he retired.

Butch was a cancer survivor and devout Christian and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Ravenswood. He considered his greatest accomplishment as a loving Husband, Father and grandfather

Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 and one hour prior to the Saturday service. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Fred Basnett, Jr officiating. Burial to follow at the Ravenswood Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Jackson Co. Honor Guard.
