Two Ohio brothers were arrested on Dudden Fork near Kenna after they wrecked a car stolen in Akron, OH, early this morning at the Kenna interchange on I-77.

According to information from Sgt. Jim Bare of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department who investigated and made the arrests, Howard A. Thompson, 19, of Cullodeon, OH, and his brother James A. Thompson, 18, of Akron, OH, allegedly stole a Hyundai in Akron at around 3 a.m. and drove it into West Virginia.

On I-77 near Kenna, the pair apparently fell sleep and the stolen car plowed into the back of a flatbed truck near the Kenna interchange. The brothers fled the scene on foot carrying grocery bags of clothing.

Upon arriving at the scene, Sgt. Bare saw a screwdriver sticking in the car’s ignition and immediately suspected the vehicle was stolen. A check of the license plate led to the owner in Akron who was unaware her car had been stolen.

Other lawmen joined the search for the pair following their tracks in the snow and Bare caught up with them walking down a driveway on Dudden Fork Road after using the telephone to make a call.

Both Thompson brothers were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. They were arraigned before Magistrate Jackie Casto who set bond at $10,000 for each. Both men are lodged in the South Central Regional Jail in lieu of bond.
