Ripley, W.Va. -

The former Ripley Police Officer who was indicted this week for allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl appeared in Jackson County Circuit Court Thursday morning to formally answer the indictment against him.

Denver H. “Buddy” Thomas, whose employment as a police officer was terminated by the Ripley City Council Wednesday night, was indicted by the Grand Jury this week on one felony count of sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust.

Thomas appeared this morning before Judge Thomas C. Evans, III, to answer the indictment.   Evans set Thomas’ bond at $20,000 in the case.

An arraignment was scheduled for Friday, March 5, at 9:30 a.m. before Judge David W. Nibert, who will handle further proceedings in the case. Thomas has until the arraignment hearing to post bond.

Thomas has retained attorney George Cosenza to represent him in the case.
