Silverton, W.Va. -

Flames engulfed a log home on Mountaineer Run off Wilding Road Monday morning and responding firefighters hampered by ice-covered roads in getting to the remote location were unable to save the structure.

Silverton Fire Chief Jason Baltic said the call came in after 8 a.m. Monday and responding fire crews from the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department assisted by crews from the Ravenswood Fire Department had difficulty in reaching the structure.

“The road to get there was a solid sheet of ice,” said Baltic. “We had one truck slide into the ditch trying to reach it.” Baltic said the structure owned by Jim Booher was fully engulfed by the time firefighters reached it and could not be saved.
