A Ripley woman was arrested Wednesday on charges of allegedly forging checks that she stole from her mother’s checkbook.
Kaitlin Leah Cranfield, 20, of Ripley faces six felony counts of forgery and uttering and six counts of conspiracy to commit a felony stemming from the accusations.
According to the complaint filed by Ripley Police Department Officer J.D. Hill, at 9:00 a.m. last Thursday morning, Dora Goff came to the Ripley Police Station to report that her daughter, Cranfield, had stolen several checks from her checkbook.
The complaint alleges that Cranfield used six of the checks between January 12 and February 27 to obtain a total of $590 from her mother’s bank account.
Hill contacted Cranfield’s father, Robert Cranfield, and asked that he advise his daughter to come in to speak to the police regarding the allegations.
Kaitlin Cranfield spoke with Hill and Cpl. C.E. Kenny the next day regarding her mother’s claims. During the interview, Cranfield allegedly confessed to the six counts of forging and uttering the checks and said that her boyfriend, Brandon Fields, would drive her to BB&T to cash the checks, even though she said he knew they were stolen.
Based on that information, Hill obtained warrants for the six felony counts of forgery and uttering and six felony counts of conspiracy.
Cranfield was arrested and arraigned Wednesday in Magistrate Court. She was released on $6,000 bond pending further proceedings.
