The first families have been chosen for the Ravenswood Adopt-a-Family program.

When the screening committee met for its meeting on Thursday, they screened and reviewed 16 new applications. Six of the new ones were put on hold for further investigation by screening committee members.

If you would like to make a financial donation to help supply the needs of these families, please make checks payable to “Ravenswood Adopt-A-Family Program” and mail them to 410 Race Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.

Families for adoption at this time are:

Family No. 1 – There are three people in this family, a grandmother and girls ages 9 and 6. Needs inlclude clothing for girls, gifts for girls, and food for three.

Family No. 2 – There are two people in this residence, an older lady and a girl age 14. Both need clothing, gifts for the girl, cleaning supplies, and food for two.

Family No. 4 – There are four people in this household. Items needed include clothing and gifts for mother, two boys ages 6 and 8, and a girl age 2, as well as food for four.

Family No. 5 – There are six people in this home, a man and woman, a boy age 18 and three girls ages 16, 8, and 6. Their needs include clothing for all, gifts for the children, and food for six.

Family No. 7 – There are five people in this family, a mother, three girls ages 19, 9, and 6, and a boy age 15. Their needs include clothing for all, gifts for family members, and food for five.

Family No. 10 – There are three people in this family, a mother, a father, and a girl age 14. They need clothing for all, gifts for the girl, and food for three.

Family No. 11 – There are two people in this household, a mother and daughter age 14. Both need clothing, gifts, and food for two.

Family No. 12 – There is one lady in this family. She needs clothing, a small remembrance, and food for one. This lady could also use blankets, towels, and wash cloths.

Family No. 13 – There are two people in this household, a grandmother and boy age 12. They need clothing, a full-size bed, and gifts. They also need food for two.

Family No. 16 – There are three people in this home, a mother, a father, and a girl age 4. They need clothing, gifts for the girl, and food for three

Applications are still available and can be picked up at Jackson Newspapers, 410 Race St., Ravenswood, during regular business hours Monday through Friday.

Church groups, individuals or organizations that would like to adopt one or more families for Christmas should give Sally Carter a call at 304-273-9897. She will try to match their wishes with a deserving family.

Adopt Headquarters in the kitchen area of the fire station will be opening in December and there will be a great need for volunteers to help with sorting and sizing of clothing that will be donated and various other chores. If you have a few hours to spend, come down to headquarters and help with this part of the Adopt program.
