The Ravenswood Red Devil boys cross country team placed second out of 12 full teams at the Capital Invitational last Thursday on the Camp Virgil Tate course.

Bryce Jarrell and Blake Jarrell finished 1-2 in the competition. Bryce turned in a winning time of 18:08 while Blake was clocked at 18:41.

DeShone Cooper was fourth 19:02.

Cody Smith was 29th (21:59), Ashton Miller was 40th (23:03), Ethan Turner placed 70th (25:41) and Houston Kessell was 77th (26:28).

In the girls' competition, Annie Hunt was 22nd (25:58), Paige Pursley placed 28th (27:53) and Taylor Heath was 50th (30:51).

“It was a good race on a rugged course for the boys,” said head coach Bryan Canterbury. “We closed the gap on Doddridge and we are excited about the championship season. Our girls have only run three races with a full team so we are still improving.

“We all feel we can close the gap on the top Class A teams and it will start at the LKC (Little Kanawha Conference) Championship race this week in West Union.”
