A man and woman from Ravenswood have been charged with child abuse resulting in injury.

Jimmy Lee Persinger, 34, and Sarah Sue Walker, 26, Lot 29, Wilding Trailer Park, Ravenswood, were charged with one felony count each of child abuse resulting in injury; bond was set at $10,000 each.

On Monday, July 23, Deputy Julia Bowen began investigating a report of child abuse involving a 9-year-old girl.

The girl’s mother reported her daughter was with their father, Jimmy Persinger, and his girlfriend, Walker, when the alleged abuse occurred, Bowen said in a criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, when the child was returned to her mother’s custody after being with her father, the child reported she was experiencing pain in her private areas.

While the child’s mother was giving her a bath on July 20, the girl began screaming uncontrollably, according to the complaint. The girl’s sister went into the bathroom and told her mother the girl was crying because her father and his girlfriend had held the girl down and sprayed her with athlete’s foot antifungal spray, according to a criminal complaint.

The victim’s mother took her to Marietta Memorial Hospital. Doctors reported the girl was treated for an untreated urinary tract infection and a possible chemical burn, according to the criminal complaint.
