The Ripley High School Theater and Choir departments have teamed up to present Grease May 11, 12 and 13, 2018, at 7 p.m. nightly.

Grease is one of the most beloved musicals of all time, due in large part to the popularity of the movie from the 1970s. The play follows the nearly ill-fated romance of Sandy Dumbrowski and Danny Zuko, as well as the adventures of their friends Betty Rizzo, Frenchy, Jan, Marty, Doody, Kenickie, Roger, and Sonny.

“We had wanted to do Grease for several years now, and the time seemed right,” said Christina Iman, theater director. “And, of course, we thought the public would enjoy this show.”

This production of Grease stars Lucas Smith, a veteran of the Ripley High School stage, as Danny and Anna Kimble, a newcomer, as Sandy.

“These two are working really hard to get their characters right,” said Iman. “And they’re representative of the whole cast in their work ethic and mix of newcomers and old hats.”

Among the newbies in this show are Calista Boggess, Alex Hill and Michael Lough. They join their more experienced counterparts, including Bethanny Johnson, Jane Purkey, Kara Hill, Doug Torres, Maggie Bowlby, Ben Morris, Chance Jewell, Chloe Hayman, Sidney Sheets, Micah Ranson and Isaac Bays.

Iman is joined by Annie Hancock, choir director at RHS, who is the music director.

“We’ve had so much fun working on this show and have been fortunate to have so much support,” said Iman.  “Our shop classes have built so much of what people will see on stage, and other teachers have helped with costuming and other things. Our parents are wonderful to volunteer and donate their time and money to help this show get off the ground.”

Tickets for Grease will be available at the door but can also be reserved by emailing the number of tickets requested and the choice of performance to ciman@boe.jack.k12.wv.us. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with a student id.
