The week ended on a rough note for the Ripley Lady Viking softball program with three road losses – one to Winfield and a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Greenbrier East.

The week ended on a rough note for the Ripley Lady Viking softball program with three road losses – one to Winfield and a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Greenbrier East.

  Winfield avenged an earlier loss this season to Ripley by knocking off the Lady Vikings, 8-1,Thursday  evening.

The defeat was followed by the two losses against East on the road  Saturday  by finals of 7-1 and 8-6.

  The Lady Vikings could muster just two hits – both by Paige Swisher – in the loss to the Lady Generals, a team they had beaten at home by a score of 8-2.

Down 2-0, Ripley got its lone run in the top of the third before Winfield added six more.

 Jaelyn Hunt pitched five innings for Ripley, allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits. She struck out three and walked eight in the loss. Chloe Shinn pitched one inning, giving up a run (earned) on two hits.

  

Greenbrier East 7-Ripley 1

 Ripley did a good job of holding East in check for most of the game – except for the bottom of the third. Leading 1-0, the Lady Spartans went on a tear to score their final six runs of the game. Ripley put its only run across the plate in the top of the fourth.

  Hunt and Swisher each had doubles for Ripley. Hunt drove home the only Lady Viking run. Katie Sinclair and Taylor Johnson had the other hits.

  Shinn pitched two innings, giving up three runs (all earned) on two hits. She issued two walks. Hunt was in the pitching circle for three innings, allowing four runs on four hits (all earned). She struck out one and walked three. Jahlea Bumpus pitched one inning, allowing one hit.

  

Greenbrier East 8-Ripley 6

 Ripley outhit (9-8) the Lady Spartans in Game 2, but couldn’t keep pace in the scoring department. Ripley took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, only to watch East come back with three in the last of the inning.

  Trailing 6-3, Ripley got to within one by scoring three in the top of the sixth. East, though, tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the frame. Ripley could only get one run closer by scoring in the top of the seventh.

  Swisher and Cassidy Young each had two hits. Hunt, Johnson, Tori Hinzman, Kyra Winter, Lexi Miller and Grace Walsh each had a hit. Swisher and Walsh each had doubles.

 Hunt pitched three and one-third innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking three. Bumpus was in the circle for two and one-third innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking two.

  Ripley committed five errors in the game.
