While the dream of playing in the State Tournament came up a bit short on Saturday, Ripley girls volleyball journeyed where no team had gone for the last nine years.

  The Lady Vikings competed in Class AAA regional competition.

  The nice postseason run, which included a win over Parkersburg South in sectional play, 25-10 and 25-21, ended with a loss to Spring Valley at Parkersburg’s Memorial Fieldhouse in a Region IV showdown.

  SV knocked off Ripley in three sets, 25-8, 25-17 and 25-16.

 The Lady Timberwolves then defeated Hurricane, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-18 to win the regional title and advance to the State Tournament, which is set for this Friday and Saturday inside the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.

 Hurricane had defeated Parkersburg High earlier in the day on the Lady Big Reds home court. As the Region IV runner-up, Hurricane will also advance to the State Tournament.

  Ripley advanced to Saturday’s regional play, thanks to the win over the Lady Patriots.

  The stat sheet looked like this for the Lady Vikings in the two-set victory over the Lady Patriots.

  Anna Kurnot had 23 hits, four kills, two blocks, 16 passes, two digs, 13 successful serves and two sets.

Karlie Hesson had six hits with one kill, 20 passes, 11 successful serves, three aces and 39 sets.

Kenzie Casto had eight hits with one kill, eight blocks, five passes, one dig, 12 successful serves and one set.

 Lexi Prater had six hits, three kills, one block, one pass and one set.

 Taylor Johnson had 42 passes and five digs.

 Ella Casto had 12 hits, five kills, three blocks, four passes, one dig, nine successful serves and one set.

  Katlyn Sarver had 11 hits with three kills, 15 passes, one dig, 13 successful serves with 1 ace and 32 sets.

 McKayla Kemp had 18 hits with three kills, 36 passes, four digs, six successful serves with one ace and one set.

 Following the win over South, which would advance Ripley on to regional play, the Lady Vikings lost the sectional championship match to Parkersburg High.

 Ripley won the third set, 26-24, with PHS taking sets one, two and four by scores of 25-16, 26-24 and 25-20, respectively.

  Kurnot had 28 hits with six kills, one block, 28 passes and 10 successful serves.

 Hesson had six hits with two kills, 11 passes, seven  successful serves and 27 sets.

 Kenzie Casto had six hits with one kill, two blocks, seven successful serves and one set.

 Prater had five hits, one kill , one block, two passes and one set.

  Johnson had  64 passes.

 Ella Casto finished with 15 hits, three kills, seven blocks, six passes, five successful serves and eight sets.

 Sarver had four hits, three  blocks, 31 passes, 16 successful serves with three aces and 59 sets.

 Kemp had 18 hits with five kills, one block, 40 passes, five digs, nine successful serves with one ace and one set.

 Tori Hinzman  had nine passes, two digs and two successful serves.
