Ravenswood High School’s 2009 Homecoming weekend kicks off tomorrow (Friday) with the “Fairy Tales” themed Homecoming Parade.
Line-up begins at 12:45 p.m. along Plaza Drive and Ritchie Avenue near the high school. The parade will step off at 1:45 p.m. The route will be from the high school along Ritchie Avenue toward the Y bearing left toward Roush Funeral Home and Par-Mar Exxon. The parade will then make a left turn onto Washington Street and proceed to Walnut Street where it will make another left turn. After one block on Walnut Street, the parade will again turn left and then right onto Sycamore Street to pass Ravenswood Middle School.
One more left turn onto Henry Street will bring the parade back to Ritchie Avenue and the PE building where the parade will end.
The Senior Homecoming Court— Miss Red Devil candidates, Demi Glover, Tabitha Good, Brooke Sheets, Molly Speece and Jessilyn Weekley and Mr. Red Devil candidates, Tyler Bennett, Marc DeLong, Brandon Humphreys, Tanner Hunter and Aaron Sams—will be in the parade, along with Underclassmen royalty— Junior Prince and Princess Levi Smith and Haley Chenoweth, Sophomore Prince and Princess Jordan Yencha and Callie Snodgrass and Freshman Prince and Princess Andrew Ely and Lydia Gray.
Also part of the parade along with theme floats, cars and community entries will be the 1959 Red Devil State Class A Championship Football Team.
The team who is celebrating its 50th anniversary will also be honored with introductions and special plaques from Coach Dick Sturm during pre-game ceremonies prior to kick-off of the Red Devils-Ritchie County Rebels football game at 7:30 p.m. at Flinn Field. 1959 team members will gather for a reception at the RvHS cafeteria at 5:30 p.m. prior to the game.
A tailgate party is also set adjacent to Flinn Field and Calvary Baptist Chruch,
Returning grads can join students and community to cheer on the AA #1 Red Devils.
Mr. and Miss Red Devil 2009 will be crowned during game half-time ceremonies.
Homecoming festivities conclude with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday from 8-11 p.m. at the RvHS Cafeteria.
