Jackson County deputy sheriffs are probing a rash of burglaries which have targeted residences and adjacent outbuildings when owners have been away. Jewelry has been an item of choice in many of the break-ins, but guns, vehicles and tools are also among stolen items.
On July 13, George Carr of Statts Mill reported the theft of a 2006 Kawasaki Mule 4 x 4 two-seater, belonging to neighbor Srinivasan Narasimhan. The four-wheeler is valued at $9,599.
Carr also said an outbuilding was broken into. Stolen were a Craftsman drill, grease gun, floor jack, farm jack, weedeater, fence stretcher, shovel, five-gallon gas can, battery charger, grinder and treestand.
The thefts are believed to have occurred July 10-13.

On July 10, William Burgess reported thefts from his mother Juanita Burgess’s farm behind the Hemlock Community Building. The thefts are believed to have occurred between June 26-July 10.
Stolen from a barn on the property was a 1987 Dodge Caravan valued at $1,000.
The farmhouse was also broken into through a window. Stolen were a pot belly stove valued at $700, refrigerator, electric stove and hot water tank and a five-foot oak porch swing with “Bill & Lucille” carved into its seat back.
The total value of all items stolen was estimated at $2,200.

On July 9, Karen White of Fisher Ridge Road at Kenna reporter her house was entered by pulling open a rear door.
Stolen were a bottle containing 10 Valium tablets and a bottle containing 30 Lortab. Drawers the house were also ransacked in the break-in which occurred between 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

On July 8, Francis Miller of Kentuck Road, Kenna, reported the daytime burglary of her home between 11:10 a.m.-6:50 p.m.
The back door of the dwelling was pried open to gain access and witnesses saw a red Dodge Neon parked in the driveway at the time of the crime and a thin white male with dark hair in the vicinity.
Stolen from the house was $14,000 in jewelry, a Taurus .357 handgun valued at $400, two Remington 30-06 rifles valued at $500 each and a bottle of Xanax. The total value of the stolen items is $15,400.

On July 8, Frederick N. Batten of Medina reported the burglary of his residence between the hours of 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
A screen was removed from a bedroom window, but a door was pried open to gain access.

Stolen were a man’s white gold wedding band valued at $500, a white gold ring with diamonds and sapphires valued at $600, five 2000 Liberty silver dollars valued at $50, five peace sliver dollars valued at $100 and a J.C. Higgins bolt action shotgun. The total value of the stolen items was $1,250.

On July 8, James F. Lingan of Kentuck Road at Kenna reported he burglary of his residence between 8 a.m.-6:25 p.m.
Access was gained by prying open a window in the rear of the residence. Witnesses saw a red Ford F150 pickup with tools in the bed parked in the driveway.
Stolen was a gold wedding band with diamond valued at $1,000, a Stihl weedeater valued at $250, a Stihl leaf blower valued at $244 and a Stihl chainsaw valued at $370. Total value of the stolen items was $1,864.
Also reported stolen were 20 rings and four watches—value yet to be determined.

On July 7, Kevin B. Rawling of Statts Mill Road reported the burglary of his home between the hours of 7:40 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Access was gained through a bedroom window.
Stolen were a Dell laptop computer valued at $800, jewelry valued at $700, black leather Harley Davisson boots valued at $120 and a Harley/Marshall tee shirt valued at $30. Total value of the stolen items was $1,650.

On July 5, a 1997 Caterpillar rubber tire front loader valued at $20,000, belonging to WV Paving of Charleston, was found over an embankment off Route 21 near Goldtown by Cpl. Roger Rhodes.
The loader had rolled over and was on its side with significant damage.
Investigators believe thieves may have tried to steal the loader between July 1-5 and wrecked it.
On July 1, Jane L. Cogar of Cottageville reported the burlary of her residence between the hours of 7:45 a,m,-8:16 p.m. Entry was gained through an unlocked door.
Stolen was assorted jewelry valued at $5,000, a Mossberg .410 shotgun valued at $200, a .22 bolt-action rifle valued at $200 and coins valued at $10. Total value of the stolen items was $5,410.
