A Ravenswood man was arrested late Wednesday afternoon on 117 criminal counts related to the alleged sexual assault and abuse of two underage family members during 2005 and 2006.
Adam Scott Dunlap, 30, of Ravenswood surrendered to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday afternoon and was processed on the charges.
According to the complaint filed by Captain H.L. Faber, Dunlap allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with two family members aged 13 and 14 during 2005 and 2006. The complaint says that the alleged victims gave statements to the police on February 3 claiming that over a period of approximately one year, Dunlap engaged them in “various sex acts, including numerous instances of fondling, oral sex, and anal sex.”
During the time the incidents allegedly occurred, Dunlap lived next door to the victims on Matthews Branch off of Middle Fork Road. According to the complaint, during the time in question, Dunlap would assume responsibility as the victims’ babysitter while their parents were away at work.
One of the victims also claimed that Dunlap had been molesting him since he was seven or eight.
Those alleged incidents were not covered in the current complaint as they were said to have occurred prior to his family’s move to Jackson County.
In a subsequent interview with Faber, Dunlap admitted that he was responsible for the alleged victims’ care, but denied having ever molested either one of them.
Based on the statement of the alleged victims, Faber obtained warrants for Dunlap’s arrest on 30 felony counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust; 27 felony counts of sexual assault in the third degree; 30 felony counts of incest; and 30 misdemeanor counts of sexual abuse in the third degree.
If he were convicted on all charges, the maximum sentence a judge could deliver would be a 1,192-year jail term coupled with a $585,000 fine.
Dunlap was arraigned in Magistrate Court where bond was set at $495,000 ($5,000 for each felony count and $2,000 for each misdemeanor count). He is currently lodged in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of bond awaiting further proceedings.
According to Faber, Dunlap is co-owner of ACE Gaming Center, a PC-based video game center on Washington Street in Ravenswood.
The case has been assigned to Magistrate Jackie Casto; attorney Shannon Baldwin will represent Dunlap as defense counsel. A preliminary hearing has been set for Monday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m.
