RIPLEY – The 2014 season for the Ripley Lady Vikings volleyball team will be one with a mix of old and new faces.  The new faces start at the top, with new coaches Sarah Summers and Lauren Fuhrman.  Summers and Fuhrman take the reigns of a program that is coming off of a 17-22 season, but so far this year, they have been happy with what they’ve seen.

“The first couple practices have gone really well,” Fuhrman said, “The seniors are really stepping up and showing good leadership.”
Summers agreed, saying, “We’re really proud of our seniors, and all of our girls.”
The Lady Vikings are looking to replace several departing seniors from last year’s squad, but the coaches are confident that the returning players will step up and fill those roles as the season gets going.
“We definitely have some really good, solid players,” Summers said, “I think we’ll have a pretty decent, competitive season.”

Although only a few days into practices, the Lady Vikings were already beginning to gel as a team and it was that teamwork that both Summers and Fuhrman hope will lead to better things.
“I think they’re working as a team,” Fuhrman said, “That’s really what has been standing out.  I want to see some good teamwork, because that’s what is going to win a volleyball game.”

The Lady Vikings will continue with preseason practices, and will scrimmage Ravenswood on August 26 and officially open their season on September 6 playing in a tournament at Woodrow Wilson.
