  • RAVENSWOOD – A Ravenswood man faces a charge of DUI-third offense following a traffic stop on Elwood Street Monday night.
Randy J. Whited, 49, was arrested following a stop made by Patrolman Andrew Boggess and Sgt. Joseph Cogar, after Boggess allegedly observed Whited driving a Ford pickup without wearing his seatbelt at around 8:54 p.m.
During the stop, the officers detected the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and Whited allegedly exhibiting signs of being under the influence. When asked to get out of the truck, Whited allegedly said he would not do field sobriety due to being shot in the leg and having back issues. When he finally stepped out of the truck, officers saw a beer can sitting on the seat. Field sobriety tests were administered and a preliminary breath test using an Alco Sensor FST. The breath test was .319, nearly four timed to .08 limit for intoxication.
Whited allegedly resisted being arrested and placed in handcuffs and had to be taken to the ground by the officers and cuffed. He was subsequently transported to Ravenswood Police headquarters and observed for 30 minutes. A second breath test was administered and read .300. Whited was advised of his Miranda rights and charged with DUI-third offense. He had been convicted of DUI-second offense in Wood County in 2011.
Whited remains lodged in the South Central Regional jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
