  • RIPLEY – Ripley’s city pool will be open for business and swimming today (Thursday), according to Ray Anderson of the parks commission.
    Anderson address Ripley City Council at Tuesday night’s regular session to apologize for apparent miscommunication that led to the pool not opening on Memorial Day weekend as previously announced.
    “We will be open Thursday (with schools dismissing three hours early to begin summer vacation),” said Anderson. “The pool looks great. Tim (King) and the workers have done a great job.”
    In other action, Council:
    • Voted to approve a final $1,953 budget revision for fiscal year 2013-2014 as presented by City Clerk Tom Armstead.
    • Heard a report that 50 of the proposed 600 waters meters have been installed in Evans.
    • Voted to move a water account at City National Bank to United Bank with the rest of the Ripley city accounts for more convenient banking.
    • Added language to job descriptions as suggested by Councilman Bryan Thompson and Recorder David Casto.
    • Heard a report from City Supervisor Tim King about the success of the recent spring cleanup and the fact that summer employees are on the job. King also reported that a city garbage truck that has experienced mechanical problems is again in the shop in Parkersburg.
    • Asked City Attorney Kevin Harris to determine the requirements for the new Convention and Visitors Bureau attaining nonprofit 501 (c)3 status with regard to the city’s obligation for funding.
    • Discussed a summer maintenance projects list with additions made by Councilperson Carolyn Waybright and King.
