  • Devilettes Down Raiders On Consecutive Days

  • RAVENSWOOD – Coach Cindy Carmichael’s Red Devilettes (15-5) handed the Roane County Raiders defeats on consecutive days last week, rallying to knock off the Raiders, 7-3, at Eastwood on Wednesday and then rolling past them, 9-1, in four innings on Thursday at Spencer.
    In Wednesday’s game, the Devilettes broke open a scoreless contest with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and added a single run in the bottom of the fifth for a 3-0 lead.
    Freshman Ariana Kennedy started the scoring run with a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth and Claudia Cubides followed with a perfectly executed bunt single. Savanna Casto then ripped a two-run double to plate both Kennedy and Cubides. Freshman Bailey Manns added a single in the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Heather Randolph led off with a sharp single, and scored on Kennedy’s RBI single.
    Roane County would not go quietly. The Raiders scratched out three runs in the top of the sixth to knot the game at 3-3.
    But Ravenswood answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning including singles by Bayli Manns and Sidney Morgan (RBI) and an RBI ground out by Laura Hall.
    Savana Casto then retired the Raiders in order in the top of the seventh, striking out the final two batters to lock up the 7-3 win.
    For the game, Casto was dominating, striking out 15, walking two and scattered five hits. Kassie Lassiter took the loss for Roane County, fanning six, walking one and allowing seven Devilette hits. Roane committed three fielding errors to Ravenswood’s two.
    Ariana Kennedy (RBI) and Bayli Manns collected a pair of hits each to lead Devilettes at the plate. Casto had a two-run double; and Sidnee Morgan (RBI, stolen base) and Claudia Cubides, one single each. Lauren Hoff chipped in an RBI.
    For Roane, Hailey Sloan (two RBIs) Cassidy Taylor, Kasey Blosser, C. Lassiter and S. Starcher had one single each.
    On Thursday in Spencer, Ravenswood wasted little time in taking control the game, scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Devilettes added a run in the top of the third and five more in the top of the fourth before the Raiders got a single run in the bottom of the fourth. The game ended via the mercy rule, 9-1, in favor the Devilettes.
    Savana Casto got the pitching win again, fanning seven, walking three and scattering four hits. Lassiter again took the loss for Roane, fanning three, walking one and allowing nine Devilette hits.
    At the plate, Sidnee Morgan led the Devilettes with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Katie Buckbee (four RBIs) and Savana Casto (two RBIs) added a pair of singles each. Claudia Cubides chipped in a double; and Bayli Manns (RBI) and Ariana Kennedy, a single each. Casto stole a pair of bases and Kennedy one.
