Senior pitcher Chelsey Hager threw yet another no hitter on Monday night as the Ripley Lady Vikings dispatched the Nitro Lady Wildcats 10-0 in five innings.
Hager, a senior, tossed all five innings and allowed no runs or hits, walked one, and struck out 10 batters. It was her second five inning no hitter this season, as she also combined for a three inning no hitter with Destinee Baldwin earlier in the year.
““Chelsey dominated,” said head coach Ken Swisher, “[She was] really sharp controlling the ball.”
The Lady Viking offense provided more than enough run support, battering the Nitro pitching staff for 10 runs off of 12 hits. Senior Meghan Brannon led the way, going three for three with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored. Ashley Mellinger went two for three with a double and three RBIs, Kelsey Moore went two for three with three runs scored, Hager helped her own cause by going three for three with two doubles and an RBI, Dusti Fisher went one for three with an RBI and a run scored, Myranda Murphy went one for three with a run scored, and Maddy McCann scored two runs.
“Our leadoff hitters went six for six,” Swisher noted, “When they get on, we usually do real well. They got on and we rolled.”
They then shut down the St. Albans Lady Red Dragons on Tuesday night, 6-0. Hager again went all seven innings, allowing only three hits, three walks, and struck out five. She helped her own cause at the plate, going one for three with a home run. Moore went one for four with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored, Brannon went one for three with an RBI and a run scored, Mellinger went one for three with an RBI, Hannah Ford went one for two with two runs scored and a stolen base, Murphy had an RBI, Izzy Donohew scored a run, and Sierra Norris went one for one with an RBI and a stolen base.
With the two wins, the Lady Vikings are now 14-5. They return to action tonight, traveling to Riverside to take on the Lady Warriors. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30pm.
