The Ripley High School Lady Viking softball team split a pair of conference games recently, thrashing the Capital Lady Cougars 10-0, but falling to the AAA #1 ranked Hurricane Lady Redskins 6-1.Against Capital, Chelsey Hager got the win, going three innings, while allowing no runs, one hit, no walks, and striking out eight batters.

“We hit the ball real well that night,” said head coach Ken Swisher.

Offensively for the Lady Vikings, Hager went two for two with two RBIs and a run scored, Ali Hamilton went one for one with a home run, two runs scored, and two stolen bases, Darby Petersen went one for two with two RBIs and a run scored, Sapphire Parsons went two for two with a run scored, Tori Anderson went one for two with 3 RBIs, Kelsey Moore scored two runs, while Hannah Ford, Meghan Brannon, and Ashley Mellinger each scored a run.  Mellinger also added a stolen base.

Hager also got the start against the top ranked Lady Redskins, taking the loss while pitching all six innings.  She gave up seven hits, five runs (all earned), one walk, and struck out one batter.

“[It was a] very interesting game,” Swisher said, “Chelsey pitched well and our defense misplayed three balls or we had a very tight game.”

Dusti Fisher led the Lady Vikes offensively, going two for three, while Hannah Ford went one for two with the lone RBI.The Lady Vikings junior varsity defeated Hurricane 1-0 in their game that followed the varsity contest. Petersen went two for two, Myranda Murphy went one for one with a run scored, Haley Carte went one for two with a double and an RBI, Delaney Parsons went one for two with a stolen base, and Reiley Simpkins went one for two.

The Lady Vikings are now 10-3 on the season, and faced the South Charleston Lady Black Eagles at home last night.
