MADISON - Coach Wes Swain’s Ravenswood Red Devils (10-5) swept the McDonalds/Phoenix Wood Bat Tournament at Scott High School Friday and Saturday, winning all three games including knocking off Class AA No. 2-ranked Independence.

“We faced good competition and the guys responded by playing some of their best baseball of the season,” said Coach Swain. “I think our hitters have embraced some of the changes that we have made and they are seeing the results in their performance.”

Heath Burgess tossed a five-inning, four-hitter on Friday, fanning six, walking one and scattering four hits in the Devils’ 16-3 mercy-rule abbreviated win over the Scott Skyhawks.

Miller took the loss for Scott, walking three and surrendering 15 Ravenswood hits.

At the plate, Thomas Sturm went 3-for-3 with a double to led the Devils. Trey Hatcher was 2-for-3 with a triple; Rhys Jelich and Matt Peery (double), 2-for-3; and Devon Crews, 2-for-4.
Scott Thompson hit a homer for the Skyhawks.

On Saturday, the Devils nipped Letcher County Central (KY), 4-3 in nine innings.

Jesse Brown got the pitching win in relief, tossing two innings with three strikeouts, no walks and no hits allowed.

Isaac Crow was the starter for Ravenswood, working five innings with four strikeouts, four walks and one hit allowed. 

Nathan Curtis pitched two innings, fanning three and allowing no walks or hits. Devon Crews made his 1-for-3 plate performance huge by providing the winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Logan Jarrett was 2-for-4 with a double; and Heath Burgess, 2-for-5.

Jesse Brown pitched a complete game two-hitter as the Red Devils knocked off AA No. 2 Independence, 3-1.

Brown fanned 10 and walked five over the seven innings with just two hits allowed. Heath Burgess went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two stolen bases. Isaac Crow was 2-for-3; Matt Peery, 1-for-2; and Trey Hatcher, 1-for-3.
