RIPLEY - The Ripley Lady Vikings junior varsity softball team swept the Point Pleasant Lady Knights in a doubleheader Tuesday night at Lady Vikings Park, taking the first game 8-2 and 4-3 in the second game.
In the first game, freshman hurler Destinee Baldwin went three strong innings, giving up no runs, no hits, two walks, and striking out two. Freshman Aly Blankenship closed the final two innings, as she gave up one hit, three walks, two runs, and one strikeout.
Sophomore Reily Simpkins led the Lady Vikes offensively, going one for two with a double, two RBIs, and scored a run. Freshmen Allie Hamilton and Olivia Ludtman each went one for two with a double and a run scored, Izzy Donohew went one for two with a run scored, Maddie McCann went one for two with a run scored, Allysa Bumpus went one for two, and Cassidy Craddock went one for two with a run scored. Haley Carte and Delaney Parsons each scored a run as well for the Lady Vikings, who cruised to an 8-2 victory.
The second game was a bit tighter, but featured another stellar effort on the mound from Baldwin. She went five innings, and gave up three runs (one earned), two hits, four walks, and struck out three.
Offensively, Parsons went two for two with a double and an RBI, McCann went one for one with a double and an RBI and scored a run, Simpkins went one for two with an RBI and a run scored, Donohew went one for three with an RBI, Ludtman went one for two with a run scored, and Baldwin helped her own cause by scoring a run. The Lady Vikings won 4-3.
