  • Casto blasts grand slam, Buckbee homers as Devilettes lumber ‘Jacks

  • EASTWOOD - Ravenswood brought out the lumber punctuated by a grand slam by Savana Casto and a two-run homer as Coach Cindy Carmichael’s Devilettes moved to 3-0 on the season with a doubleheader sweep (14-6 in five innings and 14-0 in three innings) of the visiting Richwood Lumberjacks Thursday at Eastwood. Ravenswood won 14-6 in five innings and then shut-out the ‘Jacks 14-0 in three innings including the two fence-clearing blasts.
    Ravenswood surrendered four runs in the top of the first to Richwood, but answered by exploding for 11 runs of their own in the bottom half of the opening inning. The Devilettes added three runs in the second, while Richwood scored a pair in the third before the game was called via the eight-run mercy rule in the fifth.
    Savana Casto got the pitching win for Ravenswood, fanning seven, walking two, surrendering six hits and hitting one batter over the five innnings. Megan
    Chambers took the loss as the starter for the ‘jacks lasting just two-third inning. Chambers fanned one, walked seven, allowed four hits and gave up 11 runs. Kora Yontz came on in relief to toss three and one-third innings, fanning one and walking four.
    At the plate, senior Katie Buckbee led the Devilettes with a two-run triple, an RBI double and another RBI on a long flyout. Ariana Kennedy swatted a pair of singles (RBI);  Sidnee Morgan, an RBI double; Bayli Manns, a RBI single: and Heather Randolph, a single.
    Demmi Smallwood led the Lumberjacks with a solo homer and a two-run single.
    In the nightcap, the Devilettes exploded for nine ruins in the bottom of the first inning including Buckbee’s two-run homer over the left field fence. Ravenswood added five runs in the bottom of the second inning with four coming on Casto’s grand slam blast over the right center field fence. Casto added RBI double and RBI single to her grand slam.
    Claudia Cubides smacked a two-run double; Heather Randolph, a RBI single; Ariana Kennedy, a double; and Bayli Manns and Sidnee Morgan, one single each.
    On the mound, Casto (now 3-0) got the win twirling a two-hitter over the three innings with one strikeout and one walk.
    Trista Hayhurst was the starter and loser for the ‘Jacks; lasting just two-thirds inning with one strikeout, one walk, six hits and nine runs allowed. Yontz came on in relief to one and one-thrid innings with one strikeout, one walk, one hit batsman, four hits and five runs allowed.
    Demmi Smallwood and Heather Bragg had Richwood’s two hits in the abbreviated three-inning game.
